As long as Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla does not interfere in the investigation, prosecution, and/or adjudication of the reported drug offense of his son Juanito Jose Remulla III, there is no reason for him to resign on account of his son’s offense.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. is perfectly correct in desisting from meddling with the courts in the cases of former Senator Leila de Lima, but he must be reminded that while the adjudication of criminal cases belongs to the judiciary, the prosecution of such cases is an executive function under his control and supervision pursuant to the Constitution.

In the aftermath of the hostage-taking of former Senator Leila de Lima, instead of giving her the option to be transferred to another jail as suggested by President Marcos, Jr., she must be granted freedom from a five-year odious and solitary confinement on fabricated drug charges.

Statement of:

 Rep. Edcel C. Lagman

Representative, First District of Albay and
President, Liberal Party of the Philippines

It must be conceded that the overall performance of a new President cannot be adequately measured in his first 100 days. The period is too short for a keen appreciation, a veritable critical assessment, and a thorough validation.
