Senator Leila De Lima’s incarceration for five years on February 24, 2022 appears to be the longest vengeful and unwarranted detention of a fearless critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The 5th year anniversary of her detention is marked against the contrasting backdrop of the 36th anniversary celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution which highlights the liberation of the Filipino people from injustice and despotism.
De Lima can only find her liberation after the May 2022 elections achieve the real change of administration where freedom to dissent and rule of law will be held sacrosanct.
