The farce of federalism continues to bedevil the nation as belated regional consultations on the “Federal Constitution” are scheduled.

The Consultative Committee which reviewed the 1987 Constitution and unanimously approved the draft of the “Federal Constitution” for submission to the President on or before July 9, 2018 is belatedly holding regional consultations, through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), on the proposed new charter, like in the Bicol Region in Legazpi City on July 6, 2018.

Whether or not assassinated Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili is involved in illegal drugs, it is “slandering the dead” for President Rodrigo Duterte to link without proof Halili’s murder to the drug trade.

Duterte again justified the use of force in a society where the proliferation of the culture of violence seems to be encouraged and inveigled by the administration.

It is a puzzle that despite the failure of President Rodrigo Duterte to deliver most of his campaign promises, his irreverence to established institutions, including the Catholic Church, his unpatriotic surrender to China’s expansionism in the West Philippine Sea, his policy equivocation, and his anti-human rights record, he still enjoys a high popularity rating across classes in his second year in office.
