The killing of Engr. Nelson Morales, who was expected to vie for the mayoralty contest in Malinao, Albay, is truly unfortunate and condemnable.

I urge the authorities to apprehend soonest the culprits and determine the motive.

I caution the political allies of Morales from preempting the police investigation by speculating that the killing is politically motivated.

Resort to violence has never been part of the political landscape in the First District of Albay.

I do not recall in my lifetime of any violent incident related to politics that has resulted to the death of a politician or partisan in the six local government units in the District.

With this political backdrop, the police authorities must validate all angles for possible motives considering that Morales was an emerging political personality in Malinao after serving for years as city engineer of Makati.
