At the outset, I would like to underscore that you are aspirants, not applicants. This is because your LP membership is not transactional but an ideal, a pursuit of excellence, lasting fellowship, and genuine public service.
Your Oath of Membership is your second Holy Bible. It is a constant reminder to all of you of your enduring commitment to uphold the ideals of the Liberal Party, invariably comply with the Constitution of LP and its policies, and steadfastly work for the success of LP.
The practice or obligation of oathtaking dates back to antiquity.
Greek and Roman public functionaries and spiritual leaders took their oaths of divinity under the pain of their gods’ wrath in case of violation. In Hindu tradition, people would give up their lives but not break an oath.
An oath is a public pledge of performing one’s duties and functions judiciously and effectively.
An oath, as you undertook this afternoon, is made publicly. It is not administered in solitude or behind closed doors. It must be witnessed by the discerning public.
Your oath encompasses the following overriding factors:
- It affirms and/or reaffirms your official membership in the Liberal Party of the Philippines which is among the oldest political parties in the country.
- It strengthens our brotherhood as members of LP.
- It reinforces your resolve to sustain and enhance the iconic legacies of the Liberal Party like democratic liberalism, respect for the rule of law, protection of human rights, good governance and accountability, progressive taxation, campaign against despotism, and genuine people empowerment.
- It fortifies your commitment to campaign for the victory of our national and local candidates in the forthcoming elections.
- It fulfills our battle cry, “Tuloy Liberal!”
Congratulations and welcome to the Liberal Party – your Party, our Party, and the people’s Party.
